Board of Education Approves Kurt T. Laakso as Oswego East High School Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction
Oswego, Ill. (July 15, 2021) — Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education has approved Kurt Laakso as the new Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Oswego East High School for the 2021-2022 school year.
Laakso served as a Dean of Students at Oswego East High School during the 2020-2021 school year. “Oswego East is an exemplary high school with talented, hard-working faculty, supportive parents, and engaged students,” said Laakso. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve OE in this new capacity as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction and am excited to collaborate with our stakeholders in providing a great education to the young men and women of our community.”
Laakso’s position prior to joining SD 308 in 2020-2021 was as the Associate Superintendent for Human Resources at High School District 214 in Arlington Heights, Illinois from 2012-2020; from 2007-2012, he served as the Principal at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, Illinois; and from 2001-2007, he held the position of Division Head of English and Fine Arts at Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove, Illinois.
Laakso earned his B.A. in English and American Literature and Language, cum laude, at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; M.A.T. in English at Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts; and his M.Ed. and Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration, Planning and Social Policy at Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In the past year as a Dean of Students at Oswego East, he has gone above and beyond in providing leadership through an unprecedented time. Kurt is a welcome addition to the Oswego East staff and will personify the East motto of Exellence, Academics, Spirit, and Tradition in all that he does.”
