Transportation FAQ

Who Qualifies For Transportation?
Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) District Transportation Requirements state that our district must provide free transportation for pupils residing 1.5 miles or more from any school to which they are assigned for attendance maintained within the district.

Late Bus Notifications
Please know that we do everything possible to ensure that all buses run as scheduled daily. However, unexpected incidents, including weather, may arise, causing delays in the bus's on-time arrival. We encourage parents to download our FREE parent app, Here Comes the Bus. Late bus notifications will only be sent via Here Comes The Bus. Once you have signed up on the app or website, you can choose to receive notifications via text and/or email. Messages will be sent when the bus is ten or more minutes behind. Instructions on enrolling in Here Comes The Bus can be found here.

Catapult messaging (email/phone/text) will only be used when a bus is experiencing an extended delay (30 minutes or more) or is involved in an incident.

Bus Stop Location Change Request
All requests should be submitted using the Bus Stop Change Request Form. Requests received at the beginning of the school year will not be reviewed until after September 3rd, 2024. This timing allows for evaluating all routes and capacity for changes while retaining timely and efficient routes.

Why Can’t The Bus Stop At My Home - It Drives Right By?
Due to financial and logistical limitations, our district does not offer door-to-door regular transportation service. Having a unique bus stop for each student would add significant time to all routes, necessitating the addition of many more expensive bus routes. We generate common stops that are centrally located near several eligible riders.

Paid Transportation Requests
Requests to provide transportation to students who don’t qualify for free bussing (due to their proximity of home to school) will be evaluated after October 1, 2024. This timing allows for evaluating all routes and capacity for additional students on routes while retaining timely and efficient service.

How Can I Contact Transportation?
For urgent concerns, please call (630) 636-2999. For general questions/concerns, please fill out our online form, and a staff member will contact you as quickly as possible.

When Should My Child Be At The Bus Stop?
We ask that students be present at the bus stop at least 10 minutes early. If a bus is delayed at one bus stop, it will arrive later at the remaining stops. For this reason, students are expected to be at their bus stop when the bus arrives.

Does Someone Need To Meet The Bus For Early Childhood or Kindergarten Students?
A parent/guardian or authorized individual must meet the early childhood and kindergarten child at drop-off. Kindergarten students will be picked up and dropped off at their designated bus stop along with all other students. Early childhood students will be dropped off directly at their residences. If no one is present to receive the student, the student will be returned to the school, and the parent/guardian will be required to make arrangements to pick up their child. If someone other than the parent/guardian will receive the student at the stop, you must complete this authorization form.

Can My Child Ride The Bus Home With A Friend?
Students may only ride the assigned bus route for safety and logistic reasons. Only students who qualify for transportation and are assigned a bus route may be transported on a bus.

My Child May Have Left Something On The Bus. What Do I Do?
You should call the Transportation Department at (630)636-2999 and request that a staff member check your child’s bus for a lost item. Please know your child’s bus route number when calling.

Since My Child Is The Only Student At The Bus Stop, Can The Bus Pick Him/Her Up Closer To My Home?
Bus stops are centrally located for students eligible to ride the bus. We try to keep the bus stops centrally located in these areas from year to year. Ridership is always changing.
