Tell a Trusted Adult

Tell a Trusted Adult

We want to encourage all students, especially our youngest learners, to tell an adult when they see or hear something concerning. It’s important that students know they can confide in adults at school and at home in order to report behaviors that could present a safety issue.
See Something, Say Something

See Something, Say Something

Safety and security of our schools, to protect our students and our staff, is a shared responsibility. We should all remain vigilant and aware of our surroundings at all times. SD 308 teaches everyone to “see something, say something” reporting anything you see or hear that may be concerning, suspicious, or dangerous.
SD 308 collaborates with this 24/7 program where students can use a free app, text/phone, website (Safe2HelpIL.com) and other social media platforms to report school safety issues in a confidential environment. Once vetted, the tips will immediately be shared with local school officials, mental health professionals, and/or local law enforcement, depending on the nature of the tip. Students can seek help for themselves or others, including concerns for suicide, bullying, abuse, safety, and security. Please encourage your child to download the Safe2Help Illinois app, and save the phone number in their phone. This free resource could be the key to saving a life. Seek Help Before Harm.
Using a simple online form, anyone can provide information about a potential safety issue to the district for investigation. The form can be completed anonymously, if desired. District and school leadership will follow-up on all reports. This form can be used to report inappropriate things seen on social media, concerning behavior, bullying or intimidation, threats, and any other situation that warrants a rapid investigation to prevent/respond to situations which may cause harm, damage, and/or fear.
A person who wishes to make a report under this Title IX Sexual Harassment grievance procedure may make a report to the Title IX Coordinator, Nondiscrimination Coordinator, Building Principal, Assistant Building Principal, Dean of Students, a Complaint Manager, or any employee with whom the person is comfortable speaking. A person who wishes to make a report may choose to report to a person of the same gender. School employees shall respond to incidents of sexual harassment by promptly making or forwarding the report to the Title IX Coordinator. Any employee who fails to promptly make or forward a report may be disciplined, up to and including discharge.
Reporting & Referral Information for Sexual Abuse, Grooming, and/or Boundary Violations

Reporting & Referral Information for Sexual Abuse, Grooming, and/or Boundary Violations

If you/your student believe you/your student are a victim of child sexual abuse, grooming behaviors, or boundary violations, immediately contact the Building Principal, a trusted adult employee of the District, or complete the Incident Reporting Form linked above.

The District encourages parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members to be informed and vigilant by reviewing applicable Board policies and understanding the warning signs of abuse, grooming, and boundary violations.

  • Awareness and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Grooming Behaviors - The District is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students. Child sexual abuse, grooming behaviors, inappropriate employee-student relationships, and other boundary violations cause serious harm to students, families, and the school community and interfere with a student’s ability to learn. Such conduct is strictly prohibited under  Board Policy 5:120, Employee Ethics; Code of Professional Conduct; and Conflict of Interest and Board Policy 4:165, Awareness and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Grooming Behaviors.
  • Recognizing Warning Signs - Child sexual abuse may present through physical, behavioral, or emotional changes, including unexplained injuries, sudden changes in mood or behavior, inappropriate sexual knowledge or actions, withdrawal from activities, anxiety, depression, declining academic performance, or self-harm.
  • Understanding Grooming Behaviors - Grooming involves deliberate actions, online or in person, intended to manipulate or exploit a child for sexual purposes. Warning signs may include sexualized communication, gift-giving without reason, boundary violations, attempts to isolate a student, excessive personal attention, or efforts to replace appropriate adult roles with peer-like relationships.
  • Maintaining Appropriate Boundaries - All District employees, volunteers, and visitors are expected to maintain professional, age-appropriate relationships with students. Boundary violations occur when an adult misuses their position of authority in ways that compromise a student’s safety or well-being. Examples include favoritism, private or off-campus meetings without authorization, inappropriate communication or social media contact, personal disclosures, gift-giving, or unnecessary one-on-one interactions.
  • Our Shared Responsibility - Preventing abuse and misconduct requires awareness, clear boundaries, and prompt reporting of concerns. By working together and remaining informed, we can help ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of every student.
