Technology FAQ

My student(s) cannot access their classroom Google Meet

Chrome may be logged in with another account. Log out any other users connected to Chrome. Open a new Chrome tab and go to the website classroom.google.com. Have your student log in and join the class through Classroom. If you are in Google Classroom under another student's account, click on the Google Account icon in the upper right and switch user to the student joining the Google Meet.

Why does the Google Meet name for my child show up as a sibling or myself?

Make sure that child's school account/Google username is used instead of your personal email. Instead of going directly to Meet, the student should sign in to Classroom and join from there.  You can see which person is logged in by looking at the upper right corner of the screen. It will be a photo or initial. Click on it and then click on switch account to change to the correct user. You can also sign-out of Chrome and have your child sign in.

My child is not joining the Google Class Meet that is in session on the phone or tablet but instead an old session. What do we do?

Why is there no sound when I join a Google Meet?

The sound may be turned down or muted. If there is a malfunction, exit the Meet and close Chrome. Open Chrome and Classroom again and join the Meet.

Why can’t my child open the video the teacher sent?

To view videos, make sure your child is signed into his or her school Google account and not a personal one.

How do I sign into Clever?

Log into Google Chrome with your student account. Go to the website:  http://sd308.link/myportal. This link can also be found on the bookmarks bar in the SD308 links folder icon.

What do I do if I forget my password?

Go to the website: mypassword.sd308.org and choose Forgotten password.

How do I switch between my children's Google Classrooms?

You can add and view multiple student accounts in Classroom. To add another account, click the initial or picture circle in the upper right corner of the dashboard and select Add another account. To switch between accounts, click on the email address in the upper right of the screen and select the account for current use. If switching between accounts causes issues, choose Sign out of all accounts and have your student sign in with his or her account.

My tablet will not open Google Classroom. What do I do?

To use Google Classroom, Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc, add the corresponding app to your device. Most can be used directly from Google Chrome.

Why can't I see all of my student's assignments in Google Classroom?

Parents receive Guardian Summaries that include what assignments are due but not the full list of assignments.

My child is not joining the Google Class Meet that is in session on the phone or tablet but instead an old session. What do we do?

Before clicking on the Classroom Meet link, refresh your screen. The teacher may have renewed the code and you are seeing the older code. The refresh button is the circle with an arrow at the top of the screen.

Where can I find my student's Gmail account information?

Students in grades 5 - 12 have access to Gmail. The username is the student's ID number and the domain @students.sd308.org. An example is 10000001@students.sd308.org. Passwords are unique to each student.

Why can't a student get into their Gmail?

Gmail accounts are only available for students in grades 5-12. Students in grades K-4 have Google accounts to access Google Classroom and Google Meet, but they do not have email access.

How do I use my student-assigned chromebook?

Please follow this link, Chromebook Basics which provides tips for using the Chromebook.
